  • SPOT sends messages via satellites to e-mail addresses and/or mobile phones.

  • Each message contains 2 important things:
  • 1. GPS co-ordinates (+/- 2 metres)
  • 2. A link to Google Maps to your exact location
There are 4 modes of messaging:
  • 1. "911" _ When the 911 button is pressed, a message is sent to our international 911 response centre. The proper authorities are then dispatched to your location.
  • Yes, it works in Australia. - The message is relayed to Australian Search & Rescue in Canberra and then local state police / emergency services.
  • 2. "OK" _ The Ok button is used to send an 'all is well' message to friends and family.
  • 3. "HELP" _ The help button is designated to be used in non-life threatening situations. The people on your contact list are notified of your position and request for assistance.
  • 4. "SPOT CASTING" _ This is a live tracking feature. Every 10 minutes for 24 hours, your position is plotted. With your permission, anyone with an internet connection can monitor your progress. The tracking feature is also an excellent trip log that is a great compliment to photos or journal entries. All messages can be exported to Google Earth for later reference.
